The Court of Common Council, the City of London Corporation’s main decision-making body, has today agreed its preferred site to relocate three historic wholesale food markets, subject to public consultation. In a meeting today, elected Members looked at a number of proposals.

The City of London Corporation has today announced its acquisition of Barking Power Ltd including the Barking Reach Power Station site. The 42-acre site in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham will now be considered as part of the potential options for the proposals.

In order to secure their continued operational success, the City of London Corporation has conducted a strategic review into the future of its three wholesale food markets; Billingsgate (fish), Smithfield (meat and poultry) and New Spitalfields (fruit, vegetables and flowers).
